Maasai Mara is one of the best destinations in Kenya for seeing the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. Other parks also offer opportunities to see many of these animals, depending on the destination.
Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Samburu is another excellent choice, offering elephants alongside several species found mainly in northern Kenya.

For a week-long trip, we usually recommend visiting one or two destinations. If you have 10–14 days, you can comfortably combine two or three safari destinations, or add a few relaxing days at the coast.
Kenya offers excellent wildlife viewing throughout the year. July to October is especially popular for the Great Migration in Maasai Mara, while January to March and June are also excellent periods for wildlife viewing in many parks with fewer crowds.
Maasai Mara is often the best choice for first-time visitors because of its exceptional wildlife, diverse landscapes, and excellent chances of seeing the Big Five. It also combines well with other destinations if you have more time.
